Auto Insurance In Ocean Springs, Mississippi

Ocean Springs Auto Insurance

Sometimes, choosing the right auto insurance policy can be difficult. With all of the things to consider when protecting your car like deductibles, providers, costs, and payments, all this information can be difficult to break down and use to make the best decision possible. With all kinds of differences in coverage, it can be easy for people to make a decision that can negatively impact their well-being in the case of an accident.

How To Buy Auto Insurance

At Gartman insurance, we want to help you get you an insurance policy that best fits your coverage needs.  Here are some tips for choosing an auto insurance policy:

 How Much Do You Need?

  1. Uninsured/Underinsured Drivers –  This coverage is relatively inexpensive, and if you are in a collision with an uninsured driver, it can help cover costs that your health insurance might not cover.
  2. Collision/Comprehensive – This coverage is useful if you want to have your car replaced or repaired after an accident.  Most of these policies have a deductible and they pay out based on what your car is worth, not what you paid for it.
  3. Deductible – Your deductible is the amount that you have to pay out of pocket before your insurance kicks in.  If you raise your deductible, it will most likely lower your premium, which can be useful if you can afford it.

Coverage Broken Down

Liability Coverage – This helps cover liability and expenses if you are at fault in an accident.  This coverage will cover the pay-out to the people that you hit, but it doesn’t cover the people that are in your car.

Bodily Injury Liability – Bodily Injury Liability (BIL) covers a certain amount of the medical expenses of the people hurt in a crash that you are at fault for.  Sometimes, you’ll see this coverage described as  something like 20/50.  These numbers indicate the maximum for each person injured and the total amount that the insurance company will pay out for all of the people in the other car.  In the past example (20/50), the insurance company will pay a maximum of $20,000 for an individual’s injuries, and $50,000 for the total injuries of the people in the car that you hit.

Personal Injury Protection – This covers the medical expenses of you and your passenger(s) in the case of an accident.  This policy may also cover lost wages.

Property Damage Liability – This policy pays for the damage to property that you do in an accident.  This is sometimes the third number after the BIL policy (ex. 20/50/10)

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage – This helps cover some costs if you are hit by someone that has no or minimal insurance.

Collision – Collision is the policy that covers the repairs to your car after an accident.

Comprehensive – This covers the costs of your car being stolen or damaged outside of an accident.
