Insurance questions in Hancock County
Straight answers to what local homeowners, drivers and business owners ask us most. Don’t see your question? Call us at (228) 872-3881 and we’ll talk it through.
Is flood insurance required in Hancock County?
Lenders require it for homes in high-risk flood zones. It is strongly worth considering elsewhere too. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina pushed water well inland here, far beyond the beachfront. A homeowners policy does not cover flood, wherever the water comes from.
What is an elevation certificate, and do I need one?
It is a document, prepared by a surveyor, that records how high your home sits relative to expected flood levels. It is not always required, but for an elevated home it can lower your flood premium. If you have one, send it to us.
Is there a limit to how much flood insurance I can buy?
National Flood Insurance Program policies go up to $250,000 for a home and $100,000 for its contents. If your home would cost more than that to rebuild, private and excess flood policies can cover the difference.
Where does wind coverage come from if my homeowners policy excludes it?
From a separate wind policy, written by a private carrier or by the Mississippi wind pool, which serves the coastal counties. We’ll match it to your homeowners policy so the two work together.
