Does homeowners insurance cover hurricane damage in Mississippi?
It covers part of it. Wind may be on your homeowners policy or, near the Coast, on a separate wind policy. Rising water from storm surge or heavy rain is covered only by flood insurance. We’ll show you how your policies divide it.
How much auto insurance does Mississippi require?
At least $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident for injuries, and $25,000 for property damage. Those are minimums. Many drivers carry higher limits and add uninsured motorist coverage, because Mississippi has many uninsured drivers.
Is flood insurance only for people on the Coast?
No. River and creek flooding happens across the state, including along the Pearl River in the Jackson area. Flood is excluded from every homeowners policy, and most new flood policies have a 30-day waiting period.
