Insurance questions in Jackson County
Straight answers to what local homeowners, drivers and business owners ask us most. Don’t see your question? Call us at (228) 872-3881 and we’ll talk it through.
Is wind damage covered by a homeowners policy in Jackson County?
Not always. Many carriers on the Coast leave wind and hail off the homeowners policy, so that coverage is written separately, either by another carrier or through the Mississippi Windstorm Underwriting Association, often called the wind pool. We’ll check your policy and show you where your wind coverage comes from.
Do I need flood insurance if I’m not in a high-risk flood zone?
It is worth pricing. Flood damage is never covered by a homeowners policy, and heavy rain or storm surge can reach homes outside the mapped high-risk zones. Policies for lower-risk addresses usually cost less, and most new flood policies have a 30-day waiting period, so it pays to set one up before storm season.
What is a named-storm deductible?
It is a separate deductible that applies when damage comes from a named tropical storm or hurricane. Instead of a flat dollar amount, it is often a percentage of your home’s insured value. On a home insured for $300,000, a 2% deductible is $6,000. We’ll show you the dollar figure on your own policy.
How much auto insurance does Mississippi require?
State law requires liability limits of at least $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident for injuries, plus $25,000 for property damage. Those minimums can run out quickly in a serious crash, so many Jackson County drivers choose higher limits and add uninsured motorist coverage.
