Insurance questions in Harrison County
Straight answers to what local homeowners, drivers and business owners ask us most. Don’t see your question? Call us at (228) 872-3881 and we’ll talk it through.
How many policies does it take to insure a home in Harrison County?
Often three. A homeowners policy covers fire, theft and liability. Wind and hail may sit on that policy or on a separate one. Flood is always its own policy. We’ll lay out which policy covers what, so you can see the whole picture on one page.
What is the wind pool, and when would I need it?
The Mississippi Windstorm Underwriting Association, or wind pool, writes wind and hail coverage in the coastal counties when private carriers will not. Homes close to the beach are the most likely to need it. We’ll check private options first and use the wind pool where it makes sense.
Do carriers give credit for a stronger roof?
Many do. A wind-rated roof, storm shutters, impact-resistant openings and homes built or retrofitted to stronger standards can all earn credits. Keep your inspection reports and receipts, and send them to us so every credit you qualify for is applied.
Is my car covered if it floods during a storm?
Only if you carry comprehensive coverage. Comprehensive pays for flood, hail and falling trees. Liability alone does not cover damage to your own vehicle. If your car is paid off and you dropped comprehensive, it may be worth adding back before storm season.
