Insurance questions in Waveland
Straight answers to what local homeowners, drivers and business owners ask us most. Don’t see your question? Call us at (228) 872-3881 and we’ll talk it through.
Can elevation, shutters or a wind-rated roof lower my premium?
Often, yes. Carriers give credit for features that reduce storm damage, and an elevated home usually pays less for flood insurance. Send us your elevation certificate and any wind mitigation paperwork so those credits are applied.
Do I have to carry flood insurance in Waveland?
If you have a mortgage and the home is in a high-risk zone, your lender will require it. Waveland took some of the worst of Hurricane Katrina’s surge in 2005, so most owners here carry a flood policy whether it is required or not.
Does flood insurance cover my belongings?
Only if you buy contents coverage, which is chosen separately from coverage on the building. Coverage is limited for items kept in enclosed areas beneath an elevated home, so store valuables on the living level.
What is the difference between replacement cost and actual cash value on a roof?
Replacement cost pays to put on a new roof, minus your deductible. Actual cash value subtracts depreciation, so an older roof pays out much less. Some policies switch to actual cash value as the roof ages. We’ll tell you which one you have.
