Insurance questions in Ocean Springs
Straight answers to what local homeowners, drivers and business owners ask us most. Don’t see your question? Call us at (228) 872-3881 and we’ll talk it through.
Does my Ocean Springs homeowners policy cover hurricane damage?
It depends on which part of the damage. Wind may be covered by your homeowners policy or by a separate wind policy, and rising water from storm surge is only covered by flood insurance. Most Ocean Springs homeowners carry all three pieces, and we’ll help you see how yours fit together.
I live near Front Beach or one of the bayous. Is flood insurance required?
If you have a mortgage and your home is in a high-risk flood zone, your lender will require it. Even where it isn’t required, homes close to Front Beach, Old Fort Bayou and Davis Bayou are worth protecting, because a homeowners policy pays nothing for flood damage.
Are the big live oaks on my lot an insurance concern?
They can be. If a tree falls on your home during a covered storm, the damage to the home is generally covered, but most policies limit what they pay to remove the tree and debris. We’ll show you that limit and the wind deductible that would apply.
I own a shop or restaurant downtown. What coverage should I look at?
Start with property and general liability, often combined in a business owner’s policy, then add workers’ compensation if you have employees. On the Coast, ask about wind coverage for the building and business income coverage, which helps replace lost revenue if a storm closes your doors.
