Insurance questions in Pass Christian
Straight answers to what local homeowners, drivers and business owners ask us most. Don’t see your question? Call us at (228) 872-3881 and we’ll talk it through.
My home in the Pass is historic. What should I ask about?
Ask about replacement cost and ordinance or law coverage. Older homes can cost more to repair than newer ones, and after a major loss current building codes may require changes such as raising the home. Ordinance or law coverage helps pay for that added cost.
My home is built high on pilings. Does that lower my flood premium?
It usually helps a great deal, because the living area sits above expected flood levels. An elevation certificate documents that height. Enclosed areas below the home are treated differently, so tell us how the ground level is used.
I rent my home to visitors part of the year. Does my policy allow that?
Many homeowners policies do not cover short-term rentals, or cover them only in a limited way. Tell us how often the home is rented and we’ll place it with a carrier that allows it.
I keep a boat in the harbor. How should it be insured?
With its own boat policy, covering the hull, motor, equipment and your liability. Ask how the policy handles named storms, including any requirements for moving or securing the boat when a hurricane is forecast.
